Eastport officials address emergency fuel tank removal on Fourth Street

The Annapolis Finance Committee convened on June 10, 2025, to address pressing community concerns, including an urgent environmental issue affecting Fourth Street in Eastport. The committee approved emergency funding to address a sinkhole caused by an abandoned underground fuel tank, which poses a risk of road collapse and potential environmental contamination.

During the meeting, Allison Demayo from the Department of Public Works (DPW) reported that the sinkhole, located in front of the Boatyard Grill, has been filling with water, raising concerns about further damage to the roadway. The abandoned tank, which still contains fuel residue, must be excavated and removed in compliance with the Maryland Department of the Environment's regulations. Demayo assured that the DPW would coordinate with local businesses to minimize disruptions during the removal process.
