Portsmouth School District honors retirees with over 250 years of combined service

The Portsmouth School Committee meeting held on June 10, 2025, focused on honoring several retiring educators and staff members who have made significant contributions to the district. The meeting began with a heartfelt acknowledgment of the collective 250 years of service from the retirees, highlighting their dedication to the Portsmouth School District.

Among those recognized was Diana Grenell, a first-grade teacher at Hathaway Elementary School, who is retiring after an impressive 35 years in the same classroom. The committee celebrated her long-standing commitment to education, noting the remarkable journey she has had in her teaching career.

Barbara Wright, a kindergarten teacher at Hathaway, was also honored for her 31 years of service. The meeting continued with tributes to Danielle Grice and Mary Kate O'Keefe, both English teachers at Portsmouth High School, each retiring after 35 years. O'Keefe was notably selected as the graduation speaker for the year, underscoring her impact on students.

Marilyn Thompson, a social studies teacher at Portsmouth High School, was recognized for her 36 years of service, while Lisa Donofrio and Jane Gardner, both math teachers at Portsmouth Middle School, were honored for their 18 and 21 years of service, respectively. The meeting concluded with a special mention of Robert Carberry, a custodian at Portsmouth Middle School, who is retiring after 39 years, making him the longest-serving retiree of the group.

The committee expressed deep gratitude for the retirees' contributions to the education and well-being of students, emphasizing the lasting impact they have had on the community.
