During the meeting, TZ emphasized the need for local memory care services, noting that many families currently travel to Sioux Falls for such care. Brian Clark, representing the Clark Family Trust, highlighted that only a few nearby landowners were informed, which he felt was insufficient for a project of this scale. He urged the commission to slow down the approval process to ensure all affected parties could voice their opinions.
The discussion also touched on the potential for the Planned Unit Development (PUD) to allow a wide range of uses, which some members worried could lead to unwanted developments in the future. The commission debated the need for clearer restrictions on what could be built under the PUD.
Supporters of the project, including local business owner Jeremy Jensen, argued that the facility would enhance the community by providing jobs and housing, and that it fits well with the surrounding area, which includes recreational facilities and the National Guard.
Mayor Jordan Hanson defended the project, stating that it aligns with the city’s growth goals and that the necessary public notifications had been made. He emphasized the importance of supporting developments that would benefit the community rather than opposing them.
The commission ultimately decided to table the motion for further review, allowing additional time for community input and discussion on the specifics of the development. This decision reflects a balance between fostering growth and ensuring that community concerns are adequately addressed.
