La Grange SD 102 is set to enhance community engagement and academic support for students of color following a recent committee meeting. The Community and Multicultural Inclusion (CMI) committee aims to bridge the gap between the district and the community, focusing on initiatives to close the achievement gap and promote diversity and equity in education. The committee plans to facilitate partnerships that will support the academic and social-emotional growth of students, with activities including community events and collaboration with the district's foundation for funding.
In addition to these initiatives, the district reported a successful start to summer school, serving over 200 students across two schools, which will run until July 3. The meeting also celebrated the graduation of 359 students moving on to high school and acknowledged the retirement of over ten staff members, marking a significant transition for the district.
Superintendent Dr. Camino highlighted positive trends from the recent 5 Essentials survey, noting an 11% increase in both parent and student feelings of safety in schools, and a 14% increase in program coherence. These results reflect the district's ongoing commitment to improving the educational environment.
Furthermore, the district is collaborating with local officials from La Grange and La Grange Park to discuss upcoming construction projects, ensuring alignment on community needs. Notable improvements are also underway at Congress Park, including chiller work and the replacement of exterior doors, funded in part by a school improvement grant.
As La Grange SD 102 moves forward, the focus remains on fostering community partnerships and enhancing educational experiences for all students, with more updates expected as initiatives progress.
