Santa Fe ISD approves $269K roofing services for warehouse and annex repairs

Santa Fe Independent School District (SFISD) is set to undertake significant infrastructure improvements following the approval of a $269,010 roofing project at the W.A. Nelson Maintenance Warehouse and the Kubicheck Annex building. This decision comes after extensive damage from Hurricane Barrel in July 2024, which left the roofs in need of urgent replacement. The district plans to cover the upfront costs while awaiting reimbursement from FEMA, as they filed a claim for the damages.

During the SFISD Board Meeting on June 10, 2025, the board unanimously approved the recommendation to hire RGO Roofing and Construction LLC for the project. The roofing work will involve replacing the damaged shingles on the Kubicheck Annex with new shingles and upgrading the W.A. Nelson building's roof from outdated tectum panels to a modern sheet metal design, compliant with current building codes. This upgrade will also include enhanced insulation, increasing the R-value to meet new standards.

In addition to the roofing project, the board approved a contract with the Harris County Department of Education for specialized academic behavior services, not to exceed $149,750 for the 2025-2026 school year. This service is crucial for supporting students with specific educational needs.

Furthermore, the board discussed the need for special education contracted services, including physical therapy and bilingual evaluations, with a budget of $95,000 for the upcoming school year. This reflects the district's commitment to addressing the diverse needs of its student population, particularly in light of increased demand for bilingual assessments.
