VCDC secures street closures for Thursday on the Pots and Oktoberfest events

Street closures for upcoming community events took center stage at the Vermillion City Council meeting on June 17, 2025, with multiple requests approved to facilitate local festivities.

The council unanimously approved a request from the BCDC to close sections of Market Street and Prospect Street for the popular "Thursday on the Pots" events scheduled for July and August. The closures will take place from 4 PM to 8:30 PM, with the events running from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Notably, August 7 is reserved as a backup date in case of scheduling conflicts with the Clay County Fair. City officials confirmed that police, fire, and EMS departments have been notified and raised no concerns regarding the closures. Each vendor will manage their cleanup, supported by a designated crew from the Vermillion Next Young Professionals.

In addition, the council approved a street closure request for the VCDC's Oktoberfest event on September 26. This will involve closing West Main Street, Market Street, and Prospect Street from 4 PM to 11 PM. The Oktoberfest committee has committed to coordinating with local businesses to ensure they are informed of the closures at least two weeks in advance.

Lastly, the council addressed the street closure for the Clay County Fair, set for August 10. The closure will affect High Street from West Cherry Street to the public transit driveway, with cleanup responsibilities assigned to the event organizers. The council confirmed that there would be no financial implications for the city.
