Hastings declares June 21 as Make Music Day 2025 with community celebration plans

The Hastings City Council meeting held on June 16, 2025, commenced with a proclamation celebrating Make Music Day, scheduled for June 21. Council Member Pemble introduced the proclamation, highlighting that this marks the ninth year the Hastings Park and Recreation Department has participated in this global event.

Make Music Day, which began in France in 1982, is now celebrated in over a thousand cities across 120 countries. The event aims to encourage residents and visitors of Hastings to enjoy free musical performances, fostering community spirit and civic pride. This year, festivities will take place from 10 AM to 6 PM at various locations, including Lehi Park, Pleasant Hill Library, Park Ridge, and Spiral Brewery. The full schedule of performances will be available on the City of Hastings' website and social media platforms.

In the event of inclement weather, the activities at Lehi Park will be canceled, with updates provided through the city’s communication channels. Local and metro area musicians will volunteer their performances, and community members will assist with sound support and emceeing. Special recognition was given to Chuck Spavin for his ongoing support and leadership as a volunteer for the event.

Mayor Mary Fassbender officially declared June 21, 2025, as Make Music Day in Hastings, expressing gratitude for the contributions of local performers and volunteers that make this celebration possible.
