Brazosport ISD board approves flexible school day program at Bridal Success Academy

Brazosport ISD is set to enhance educational opportunities for at-risk students following the approval of an application to operate an optional flexible school day program at the Brazos Success Academy. During the June 16, 2025, board meeting, the administration presented the program aimed at providing flexible scheduling options for students facing various challenges, including work commitments, childcare responsibilities, and personal circumstances that hinder traditional attendance.

The optional flexible school day program, as outlined by the Texas Education Code, allows eligible students to receive average daily attendance funding while attending classes at times that suit their individual needs. This initiative is particularly significant for students who have previously dropped out or are at risk of doing so, as it offers them a pathway to complete their education in a supportive environment.

In the 2024-2025 school year, the on-site program successfully served eight students, with six graduating, marking a graduation rate of 75%, an improvement from the previous year's 67%. The program also reported that 42 students graduated through the Graduation Alliance, which supports students who have dropped out by providing online learning options. This year, 20 students remain active in the program, with ongoing outreach efforts to encourage re-engagement among those who have temporarily deactivated.

The board's decision to submit the application is a proactive step towards ensuring that students who require additional support can continue their education without the barriers of traditional school schedules. The program is designed to accommodate students who may need to attend classes after regular hours or during specific times throughout the day.

The administration plans to submit the application by June 19, 2025, with the expectation that the program will continue to evolve and adapt to the needs of its students. This initiative not only aims to improve graduation rates but also to foster a more inclusive educational environment for all students in the Brazosport ISD community.
