Park County Commission mandates quarterly financial reporting from county auditor

The Park County Commission took a significant step towards transparency during its June 17, 2025 meeting by reinforcing the role of the county auditor in financial reporting. The commission unanimously approved a resolution that mandates the county auditor to provide detailed financial reports ahead of each regular meeting.

Under the new resolution, the county auditor is required to submit a list of claims exceeding $5,000 prior to each meeting. Additionally, a quarterly report must be delivered within 15 days before the first regular session of the Board of County Commissioners in March, June, September, and December. This report will include year-to-date expenditures versus budget for each county department, total county revenues, and total county expenditures, ensuring a comprehensive overview of the county's financial health.

In a move to enhance public access to information, the auditor's quarterly report will also be posted on the county website, aligning with the Montana state constitution's commitment to transparency in government operations. This initiative reflects the commission's dedication to keeping the public informed and engaged in local governance.
