Pasco County honors solid waste teams for dedicated hurricane recovery efforts

Pasco County is honoring its solid waste workers with a special recognition week, celebrating their vital role in community health and safety. During the recent Board of County Commissioners meeting, officials highlighted the dedication of these workers, particularly during the back-to-back hurricanes of 2024, when they managed over 1.3 million cubic yards of storm debris.

Commissioner Whitman emphasized the importance of solid waste teams, stating, "You all are just as vital to every community throughout the state, throughout this country, throughout the world." He acknowledged their commitment during challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic, when waste management shifted dramatically as businesses closed.

The Board officially declared the week of June 15 as Solid Waste Workers Week, recognizing their selfless service and commitment to residents and businesses.
