DeSoto City Council unanimously approves zoning change for duplex development

In a unanimous decision, the council approved a zoning amendment that will transition a property from single-family residential to a two-family residential duplex district. This change, affecting Lot 5, Block 7 of Park Ridge Estates, aims to accommodate the growing housing needs in the area. Council member Parker raised concerns about the implications of the zoning change, particularly regarding the placement of a detention pond within the development. City officials clarified that while zoning is approved first, the site plan, which includes details about drainage and other infrastructure, will be reviewed later, allowing for further community input.

Additionally, the council authorized an amendment to an agreement with WRG LLC for the purchase and installation of furniture for the new aquatic and recreation center, with a budget not to exceed $52,250.
