Dallas residents oppose Champions poker club's certificate of occupancy near neighborhoods

Residents of the Bent Tree North neighborhood in Dallas voiced strong opposition during a recent Board of Adjustments meeting regarding a proposed poker club, Champions, seeking a certificate of occupancy. The meeting, held on June 17, 2025, highlighted community concerns about the potential impacts of gambling on local safety, property values, and quality of life.

Mike Higgins, a long-time resident, opened the discussion by emphasizing the negative consequences of a 24-hour gambling operation, including increased traffic and noise, which he argued would strain the neighborhood. David Schnitzer, a commercial real estate expert, countered Higgins' claims, advocating for the club's operation based on his experience with similar establishments across Texas.
