The Excelsior Springs City Council convened on March 3, 2025, to discuss several key resolutions aimed at improving local infrastructure and addressing board vacancies.
One of the primary topics was the approval of Resolution 15-57, which authorizes a contract with Vance Brothers LLC for the 2025 Streetscape Project. This phase of the project will focus on chip and seal work on streets south of downtown, specifically from South Marietta Street to Oreck Road. The low bid for this project was $494,193, which is significantly lower than the estimated cost of $571,000. The council noted that this method of chip and seal uses granite instead of limestone, making it more visually appealing and less dusty.
Following this, the council approved Resolution 15-58, which establishes a base repair agreement with All Pro Asphalt for the same Streetscape Project. This agreement will cover neighborhoods north of Tracy, including King's Edition and Wilson Estates, with plans for surfacing to occur in the following year.
Additionally, the council addressed board vacancies through Resolution 15-59. City Manager Molly McGovern highlighted that there are current vacancies on the Board of Zoning Adjustment, the Community Center Board, and the Parks and Recreation Board due to early terminations. The council plans to advertise these vacancies and collect applications over the next 30 days, aiming to streamline the process for future mayors and encourage community involvement.
All resolutions were unanimously approved by the council, reflecting a commitment to enhancing the city's infrastructure and governance. The council's proactive approach to filling board vacancies is expected to foster greater community engagement and ensure that local boards are adequately staffed.
