Garfield High honors athletes with awards in bowling, swimming, basketball and softball

The Garfield Public School District celebrated its student-athletes during the GBOE Live Board Meeting on June 16, 2025, highlighting achievements across various sports. The awards ceremony recognized the hard work and dedication of students, fostering a sense of pride within the community.

Among the notable mentions was Vincent Giordano, who received an honorable mention for bowling, although he was not present to accept the award. The indoor track team also shone, with Victoria Hidalgo earning third place at the NJIC championship meet, a significant achievement given the competitive nature of the event involving 36 schools.

In swimming, several athletes were acknowledged, including Lucia Lopez, Alexandra Sigorski, and Isabella Soriana Pineda, all receiving honorable mentions. The girls' basketball team also made headlines, with Naijae Mixon, Amelia Ristevska, and Destiny Davis named first-team all-league players, while Elena Henry received honorable mention.

The golf program celebrated a historic moment as Allison Gorica made first team for the first time in 30 years, a milestone that drew applause from attendees. The softball team, led by coach Frank Dawson, showed marked improvement, doubling their wins from three to six this season, and is optimistic about future success.
