Principal Alberta Porter retires after 38 years at Darlington Elementary School

As the Harford County Council wrapped up its final legislative session before the summer break, a strong emphasis was placed on community engagement and support. Councilman Bennett celebrated the successful distribution of 300 gun vaults by the health department, a program that reflects the council's commitment to community safety. "It sold out so quickly, showing the tremendous need," he noted, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in fostering a safer environment.

In a heartfelt moment, Bennett also recognized the retirement of Alberta Porter, principal of Darlington Elementary School, after 38 years of dedicated service. "She has had an amazing impact on her students, families, teachers, and staff," he remarked, underscoring the vital role educators play in shaping the community.

The council also addressed the importance of youth engagement, with Bennett discussing efforts to reboot the youth commission, which has been inactive for some time. He expressed enthusiasm for involving young people in local government, stating, "They are some really impressive young people with a lot of drive."
