Cornwall School District celebrates student achievements and moving up ceremonies

The Cornwall Central School District Board of Education convened on June 16, 2025, to discuss various updates and activities from the district's schools, highlighting student achievements and upcoming events as the school year draws to a close.

The meeting commenced with student representatives Madeline and Eva presenting reports from their respective schools. They shared positive news from Cornwall-on-Hudson (COH), where kindergarten screening was successfully conducted, and a mother-son bowling night was held, drawing enthusiastic participation. The month of June is particularly active, with numerous field trips planned, including a visit to Legoland for fourth graders and a picnic for first graders at the park.

Willow Avenue School reported similar excitement, with students engaging in various activities, including a cardboard arcade and a Poetry Palooza for kindergarteners. The school also celebrated its fourth graders with a moving-up ceremony, marking their transition to middle school.

Cornwall Elementary School (CES) highlighted memorable experiences for third graders during their overnight field trip to Black Rock Forest, where they participated in outdoor lessons and activities. The fourth graders also enjoyed a trip to Ellis Island, enriching their understanding of American immigration history.

At Cornwall Middle School (CCMS), eighth graders participated in a two-day trip to Boston, which included visits to the Museum of Science and the New England Aquarium. The school also celebrated the achievements of its music ensembles, which received high ratings at a recent festival.

Cornwall Central High School (CCHS) reported a busy end to the school year, with Regents exams underway and various events such as the spring concert and awards night recognizing student accomplishments. The senior prom was a highlight, with students enjoying a festive evening at West Hills Country Club.

Superintendent Terry Dade expressed gratitude for his time at the district, reflecting on the positive experiences he and his family have had over the past five years. He acknowledged the hard work of the district's staff and students, emphasizing the many successes achieved.

The meeting concluded with the announcement of Megan Argenio as the interim superintendent, effective July 1, and an update on the ongoing search for a permanent replacement. The board looks forward to providing further updates in future meetings as the district continues to evolve and support its students.
