Bay County Planning Commission approves zoning changes and Land Development Regulation amendments

The June 17 regular meeting of the Bay County Planning Commission commenced with the establishment of a quorum, followed by the approval of previous meeting minutes. The commission reviewed several items previously discussed by the Board of County Commissioners, including land use and zoning changes in various areas.

Key approvals included a change along Highway 231 from general agricultural to C3 general commercial zoning, and a similar transition for properties on Memorial Circle and Front Beach Road. Additionally, a property formerly in Lynn Haven was designated as general commercial future land use and C3A general commercial low zoning. However, a request for a zoning change along Joan Avenue was tabled until the next meeting due to the absence of the applicant.

The meeting proceeded to the public hearing segment, where staff presented proposed text amendments to Chapter 13 of the Bay County Land Development Regulations. These amendments aim to align local regulations with state requirements regarding home occupations, nightclubs, and cannabis dispensing facilities. The staff emphasized that these changes are not introducing new regulations but rather incorporating existing language for consistency.

After a brief discussion, the commission unanimously supported the staff's recommendation to approve the proposed amendments and forward them to the Board of County Commissioners. No public comments were made during this segment, and the meeting concluded with no additional items from commission members. The next meeting is scheduled for July 1, where further discussions will continue.
