The Burke County community celebrated the selfless contributions of local volunteers during the June Regular Meeting, highlighting the profound impact these individuals have on the lives of residents in need. Among those honored was Doug, a dedicated volunteer at the outreach center, who tirelessly serves 179 seniors living in poverty. Doug goes above and beyond, using his own resources to deliver food and assist seniors with various needs, including providing a heater for one individual and helping another couple build a ramp to regain their mobility and independence.
Another standout volunteer, Jasper Hemphill, was recognized for his extensive work with the Red Cross and other organizations. Jasper is known for his readiness to respond to emergencies, having assisted families during severe weather conditions. His commitment extends to visiting veterans and supporting literacy initiatives, showcasing his diverse contributions to the community.

Subscribe for Free Joyce Petit, an office volunteer with Amoram, was also acknowledged for her vital administrative support, which enhances the organization’s ability to serve patients and families effectively. Her dedication, volunteering two to three full days a week, has made a significant difference in the operations of Amoram.
Julie Dickinson, a retiree from the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center, was celebrated for her compassionate engagement with residents. Julie participates in various activities, ensuring that residents feel valued and cared for, while also sponsoring those without family support.
Lastly, the Salem United Methodist Church was recognized for its decade-long partnership with the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. Their consistent support through personal care products, companionship, and participation in events has enriched the lives of many residents.
