YMCA of Greater Seattle highlights community impact in Sammamish annual report

The Sammamish City Council meeting on June 18, 2025, highlighted the YMCA of Greater Seattle's annual report, showcasing the organization's significant impact on the local community over the past year. Kelly Martin, the branch executive for the Sammamish Community and Aquatic Center, presented the report, emphasizing the strong partnership between the YMCA and the city.

In 2024, the YMCA recorded over 489,000 visits, demonstrating its vital role in the community. The organization awarded more than $185,000 in scholarships, ensuring that financial barriers did not prevent residents from accessing essential programs, including swim lessons and summer camps. Martin noted that despite a pool closure for half the year, the YMCA successfully taught over 7,100 swim lessons and served more than 13,000 meals to local families.

The YMCA's community events, such as the Fall Festival and Extravaganza, attracted over 5,000 participants, fostering a sense of belonging among residents. The organization also provided a safe space for children through its Kids Zone, which saw over 31,000 visits, and offered 90 group exercise classes weekly for all ages.

Martin highlighted the YMCA's commitment to inclusivity, stating that fundraising efforts raised $134,000, which supports programs that ensure no one is left behind. The organization hosted free community swim sessions and various fitness classes, including specialized programs for seniors and children with health challenges.

The meeting also touched on the completion of a significant tile project at the community center, which Martin described as a testament to the partnership's resilience and dedication. The YMCA's collaborative efforts with local organizations, such as the Issaquah Food Bank, further demonstrate its commitment to serving the Sammamish community.

As the city continues to support the YMCA's initiatives, residents can look forward to more inclusive programs and events that enhance community engagement and well-being.
