Perry Robotics Club qualifies for 2025 World Championships at regional competition

In a vibrant display of community spirit and student achievement, the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (CFBISD) held its regular school board meeting on April 3, 2025. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as board members and community leaders celebrated notable accomplishments and initiatives aimed at enhancing student experiences.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the announcement that the Perry Robotics middle school team has qualified for the 2025 World Championships. Their success at the regional level, where they earned the highest design award, has sparked enthusiasm among students, showcasing the district's commitment to fostering innovation and teamwork in young minds.

In a nod to student preferences, the district's nutrition department has begun taste testing new menu items, including a traditional Mexican noodle soup. This initiative not only honors student voices but also aims to expand the variety of meals offered in schools, ensuring that students enjoy nutritious and culturally relevant food options.

The meeting also featured a heartwarming event held at the Nancy Watson Center, where 35 middle and high school students received brand new suits, thanks to the generosity of local donors and the tailoring expertise of RL Turner’s design department. The students' excitement was palpable as they walked down the runway, showcasing their new attire, which included donated shoes and ties. This initiative not only provided students with formal wear but also instilled a sense of pride and confidence.

Additionally, the board recognized Dr. Lehi Miller, principal of Ranch Field, for her recent achievement in earning her doctorate, a testament to the dedication and hard work of the district's leadership.

Bridal Meis, the third vice president of programs for the Council PTA, shared updates on community engagement efforts, including the successful "Patrol Stories" event that promoted student safety and fostered relationships with local first responders. The event saw participation from the Carrollton Fire Department, which brought one of its newest engines for children to explore. La Vieeta Elementary emerged as the top ticket seller, winning a free event for next year, while other schools celebrated their achievements with popsicle parties.

Looking ahead, the Council PTA is set to host a school board candidate forum on April 15, providing a platform for community members to engage with potential board members. They also reminded attendees of the upcoming scholarship deadline on April 8, encouraging students to apply for financial support.

As the meeting concluded, it was clear that CFBISD is not only focused on academic excellence but also on building a strong, supportive community that empowers students to reach their full potential.
