Bibb County Schools celebrate achievements and recognize new district leaders at board meeting

Bibb County Schools celebrated significant achievements and welcomed new leadership during the Board of Education meeting held on June 18, 2025. Superintendent Dr. Curtis Sims highlighted the district's accomplishments over the past school year, including the successful implementation of the Leader in Me initiative, which has resulted in 16 certified lighthouse schools. This recognition underscores the district's commitment to fostering leadership skills among students and staff.

The meeting also marked the introduction of new district and school leaders, including Dr. Salida Thomas Watson as the director of partnerships and programs, and several new assistant principals across various schools. This transition in leadership is expected to enhance the educational experience for students and strengthen community engagement.

In addition to leadership changes, the district reported a graduation rate that exceeded the state average for the second consecutive year, with three high schools achieving rates above 90%. This achievement reflects the dedication of educators and staff in supporting student success.

The meeting concluded with a heartfelt acknowledgment of Dr. Sims' 30 years in education, as he expressed gratitude for his career and the impact of his wife, Tracy Sims, who recently retired after 31 years in public education.
