Winter Haven selects Whitehead Construction for Diamondplex and pickleball complex renovations

The City of Winter Haven is moving forward with significant improvements to the Diamondplex Softball Complex and the development of a new pickleball facility. During a recent government meeting, officials discussed the awarding of a design-build contract for these projects, highlighting the importance of enhancing local sports facilities.

The request for qualifications (RFQ 25 15) was issued on February 10, attracting three submissions. Whitehead Construction emerged as the top choice, thanks to their extensive experience in constructing sports fields and courts in Central Florida. The Diamondplex, which has served the community for nearly 30 years and is home to the Polk State College women's softball team, is set for a much-needed renovation.

City officials have allocated $1 million for the Diamondplex project in the current fiscal year, with plans for phase one construction to begin soon. Additionally, $100,000 has been earmarked for the pickleball complex's site selection and design process. The renovations aim to improve facilities that host league play and community events, ensuring they meet the needs of local athletes and residents.

As the city prepares for the next steps, including a design and needs assessment, the focus remains on enhancing Winter Haven's recreational offerings and fostering community engagement through sports.
