Foundation Mechanics and ICC Group awarded major construction contracts in Illinois

The Illinois Tollway Authority has taken significant steps to enhance infrastructure and improve regional connectivity during its recent Engineering, Planning & Development Oversight Committee meeting on June 18, 2025. Key decisions made during the meeting include the awarding of multiple construction contracts aimed at improving drainage, rehabilitating bridges, and advancing critical projects along the I-490 corridor.

The committee approved a construction contract for drainage improvements on the northern section of the Tri State Tollway, specifically between Townline Road and Half Day Road. Foundation Mechanics LLC was awarded the contract with a bid of $4,099,199. This project will involve storm sewer and culvert cleaning, ditch regrading, and landscaping, among other tasks. The contractor has committed to exceeding diversity and vendor goals, ensuring community engagement in the project.

Additionally, a contract for the rehabilitation of the bridge over the Des Plaines River Valley in Lamont was awarded to ICC Group for $20,547,000. This project is part of the 2025 program for bridge repair and includes various enhancements such as retaining wall replacements and erosion control. ICC Group's competitive bid, which was within 2% of the estimate, reflects their commitment to meeting diversity and veteran goals.

The meeting also highlighted progress on the I-490 Corridor project, which is crucial for regional and national connectivity. An extra work order of $3 million was approved for modifications related to railroad relocation, which is essential for the ongoing construction efforts. This project aims to provide new access to the villages of Franklin Park and Bensenville, fostering economic growth and job creation in the area.

In addition to construction contracts, the committee approved three professional engineering service contracts. WBK Engineering LLC received a $3 million contract for design services, while Globetrotters Engineering Corporation was awarded $5 million for construction management services on the I-490 project. Thomas Engineering Group LLC will oversee intelligent transportation system improvements on the Tri State Tollway with a contract valued at $5,635,498.
