Carla Bridal highlights Newark Senior Center's community contributions and services

The Newark City Council meeting on June 16, 2025, highlighted the vital role of the Newark Senior Center in the community, as Executive Director Carla Bridal shared insights into the center's contributions and ongoing partnerships with the city.

Bridal, who has led the center since 2006, emphasized its status as the only nationally accredited senior center in Delaware, serving as a crucial hub for residents aged 50 and older. She expressed gratitude for the city's support, which has included in-kind contributions that enhance the center's ability to host programs and public meetings.

One of the center's significant achievements is its administration of over $700,000 in home repair and weatherization assistance through the Community Development Block Grant, helping seniors maintain their independence and property values. Additionally, the center has been instrumental in delivering more than 220,000 meals to homebound residents through its Meals on Wheels program since 2006, providing not only nutrition but also safety checks for recipients.

Bridal also highlighted the Meeting of Minds program, which supports families dealing with early stages of memory loss. This initiative has served over 350 families in the Greater Newark area since its inception in 2016, showcasing the center's commitment to addressing the needs of caregivers and their loved ones.

The meeting underscored the importance of community partnerships and the ongoing efforts to support Newark's senior population, reflecting the city's dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all residents.
