Ocean Shores implements new fire response and traffic changes for July 4 weekend

The Ocean Shores Public Safety Committee meeting on June 17, 2025, highlighted crucial preparations for the upcoming summer season, particularly concerning fire safety and traffic management. With the Fourth of July holiday approaching, officials emphasized their commitment to ensuring public safety on the beaches and surrounding areas.

One of the key discussions centered on the use of drone technology to monitor potential fire hazards in the dunes. The fire inspector will deploy drones to track fires quickly, enhancing the city’s response capabilities. This year, the strategy for deploying fire engines has also changed. Instead of staging structural engines at the beach approaches, they will respond directly from the fire station. This adjustment aims to improve response times in case of a fire emergency, especially if defensive tactics are needed to control fires spreading into secondary dunes.

In addition to fire safety, the committee addressed traffic management to alleviate congestion that plagued last year’s holiday celebrations. Changes will reroute incoming traffic to encourage visitors to use alternative beach access points rather than relying solely on the Chance Approach. Eco blocks and barriers will be installed to guide pedestrians safely and ensure a smoother flow of vehicles.
