Shelby County Board approves $711K for Kingsbury and Melrose School computer upgrades

Kingsbury High School will receive $123,516.52 for computer devices, while Kingsbury Middle School's allocation amounts to $204,300. Melrose High School's technology upgrade is the largest, with a budget of $383,598.70. These purchases include hardware from Broadway Typewriter Company, Inc. and deployment services from Unistar Sparco Company, Inc., aimed at enhancing the schools' technological capabilities.

Board member Poemie Mote raised concerns about whether all schools would be fully equipped with the necessary computers by the start of the school year. In response, district officials acknowledged ongoing evaluations of computer readiness, noting that not all schools have equal access to funding for replenishing lost or damaged devices. The district is committed to ensuring that all schools are prepared for the upcoming academic year.

Officials confirmed that while the current IT team is sufficient for immediate needs, there is a recognized demand for additional staff to ensure all schools, particularly larger high schools, have dedicated support.
