East Ridge advances multipurpose event center construction and community center enhancements

During the East Ridge City Council meeting held on June 12, 2025, several key updates were shared regarding community events and ongoing construction projects that are set to enhance local facilities.

The meeting began with announcements from the mayor about upcoming events organized by the Parks and Recreation Department and the local library. Notably, the library will host a "Novel Idea" book club on June 14, featuring the book "The God of the Woods" by Liz Moore. Additionally, there will be a "Paint a Bear" workshop on the same day, allowing participants to create and name their own stuffed bears. City Manager updates focused on the progress of two significant construction projects: the multipurpose event center and the expansion of the community center. The event center, located behind City Hall, is progressing well despite delays caused by recent rain. The installation of stone veneer on the west side of the building has been completed, with work set to begin on the east side soon. Interior framing is also underway, with the kitchen and bathroom areas expected to be finished shortly.

The community center expansion, funded by a Local Parks and Recreation Fund grant, is also moving forward. The project will include necessary upgrades to meet building codes, including the installation of a sprinkler system. The contractor, Pillar Construction, is anticipated to begin work by mid-July, with a completion timeline of approximately 270 days.

In the interim, the recreation department has temporarily relocated its operations. Administrative functions are now based at the East Ridge Museum, while recreational programs are being held at the East Ridge United Methodist Church. This arrangement will remain in place until the completion of the community center expansion, expected to take about nine months.

These developments reflect East Ridge's commitment to enhancing community facilities and providing engaging programs for residents. As construction progresses, the city aims to create spaces that foster community interaction and support local activities.
