Public art is set to take center stage in Aurora with the upcoming installation of two vibrant canopies designed to enhance the bus stops at Havana and Colfax. Amber Pixley, the public art program specialist, presented the project during a recent government meeting, highlighting the artistic vision and cultural significance behind the designs.
The canopies, crafted by artist Jess, will feature artwork printed on glass using a specialized dip tech technique. Each canopy will serve eastbound and westbound buses, ensuring that commuters experience a visually engaging environment while waiting. The designs celebrate the rich tapestry of global cuisines, showcasing cookware and floral ingredients from diverse cultures, including Korean, Indian, and Ethiopian.
Pixley emphasized that the project aligns with the parameters set by the Denver-Aurora project team, ensuring consistency with Denver's existing canopies. The total budget for the artistic endeavor is $45,000, reflecting a commitment to integrating art into public spaces.
The canopies not only aim to beautify the area but also promote unity through food culture, making them a significant addition to Aurora's public art landscape. As the project moves forward, residents can look forward to a more colorful and culturally rich commuting experience.
