Phoenix outlines bulk trash placement guidelines for efficient collection

The City of Phoenix held a meeting on June 23, 2025, to discuss guidelines for residents on how to properly place their bulk trash piles for collection. The meeting emphasized the importance of following specific procedures to ensure efficient and safe trash collection.

Residents are required to schedule an appointment for bulk trash collection by visiting phoenix.gov/bulktrash. It is crucial that bulk items are not placed out for collection more than seven days before the scheduled appointment. The city has outlined a list of prohibited materials, which includes concrete, dirt, tires, and panes of glass, to ensure compliance and safety during collection.

To facilitate the collection process, residents must place their bulk trash piles neatly within five feet of the front edge of their property. This positioning allows collection vehicles to operate without entering private yards. Additionally, piles should not obstruct sidewalks, ensuring pedestrian safety.

Each household is allowed a maximum of 10 cubic yards of bulk trash per collection, which is approximately equivalent to a pile measuring 17 feet by 4 feet by 4 feet. Residents are also advised to keep their items at least five feet away from fixed objects such as cars, fences, or mailboxes. For those with walls or fences around their property, placing the pile in the driveway is permitted.

Furthermore, long items like tree branches should be cut down to less than four feet in length and less than 12 inches in diameter to ensure they fit within the collection guidelines.
