Bowling Green community advocates for expanded solar energy initiatives

Bowling Green's Board of Public Utilities is under pressure to ramp up its commitment to renewable energy, particularly solar power, as community members voice concerns over the city's heavy reliance on coal. During a recent meeting, residents highlighted the urgent need for energy diversification, with coal currently accounting for approximately 51% of the city's energy portfolio.

One resident passionately urged the board to consider the long-term health implications of fossil fuel dependency, stating, "We have an obligation to our children and grandchildren to initiate change that will leave them with a livable planet." She pointed out that many neighboring cities do not impose surcharges on solar customers, unlike Bowling Green, which currently has a surcharge that discourages solar investment.
