Ryan Easterling Babin highlights Northglenn's diversity and inclusivity efforts

This month, the spotlight shines on Ryan Easterling-Babin, a dedicated member of the LGBTQ+ community and co-chair of the city's Diversity, Inclusivity, and Social Equity Board. Having lived in Northglenn for five years with his husband, Ryan reflects on the cultural shift he experienced upon moving. "It was definitely a culture shock, but in a good way," he says, highlighting the friendly atmosphere that drew him and his husband to stay. Their commitment to the community is evident in Ryan's active role on the board, which he joined after a chance encounter at a local bridal festival. Inspired by a conversation with Councilwoman Gough, he decided to volunteer, leading to his current position as co-chair.

Ryan's pride in his work is palpable. "It gives me a sense of accomplishment when I see things like this," he notes, emphasizing the importance of fostering inclusivity in Northglenn. His journey has not been without its challenges; he recalls the memorable moment when they moved to the city just as COVID-19 restrictions were implemented. "We got here, and I'm like, okay. Now we're shut down. It's like, why did we move here?" he laughs, reflecting on the irony of their timing.

Beyond his community involvement, Ryan shares a glimpse into his personal interests. While his husband enjoys Dungeons and Dragons, Ryan has a unique passion for the Titanic, not just the film but the actual history of the ill-fated ship. "I've got a shrine in my bedroom because I just nerd out on Titanic," he admits, showcasing the diverse interests that make him who he is.
