The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) celebrated a successful end to the 2024-2025 school year during its recent Board of Education meeting, highlighting numerous achievements and community contributions. Among the notable accomplishments, East High School's Jay Coleman secured two state titles in wheelchair racing at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Track and Field Championships. Additionally, Memorial High School's Advanced Placement macroeconomic students excelled in a statewide stock market simulation, showcasing the district's commitment to academic excellence.

The meeting also recognized Cindy Diaz, a community school resource coordinator at Leopold Elementary, who was honored as a 2025 Woman of Distinction by YWCA Madison for her impactful leadership and service. Furthermore, Edith Noriega, a bilingual resource specialist at Schenck, became the first graduate of the district's "Grow Your Own" program, earning an associate degree and preparing to pursue a bachelor's degree in elementary education.

In terms of community support, the board acknowledged significant donations, including $30,000 from UnityPoint Health Meritor for the Val Phillips Memorial High School dinner program and a total of $34,578 in contributions from the University of Wisconsin's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Superintendent Joe introduced several key initiatives and accomplishments from the past year, including the completion of renovations at four comprehensive high schools funded by a successful 2020 referendum.
