Fairhope hosts Jubilee at the Pavilion event while Air Race Classic showcases women pilots

The City of Fairhope's recent council work session highlighted several community-focused initiatives, including an upcoming fall event and updates on educational programs and infrastructure improvements.

One of the key announcements was the "Jubilee at the Pavilion," scheduled for September 27 at the Pelican's Nest. This event aims to celebrate the past, present, and future of the Fairhope Institute for Education (FIFE) and will feature food, live music, and a silent auction. The event is part of a broader campaign leading up to FIFE's anniversary in 2026, showcasing the organization's commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for local students.

In addition to the Jubilee, the council discussed new educational programs for students in grades seven through twelve. Previously limited to younger students, the Pelican's Nest is now expanding its offerings to include marine sciences, collaborating with Fairhope High School and other Baldwin County schools. This initiative allows students to engage in hands-on learning experiences, such as field trips to the sea lab and interactive sessions with marine scientists.

The meeting also covered updates on local infrastructure projects. The gas department announced the upcoming groundbreaking for the second phase of a cast iron pipe replacement project, which will affect over 600 customers and involve the installation of approximately 950,000 feet of new gas piping. Additionally, the council approved a bid for new sidewalks on Blue Island and Fairwood Boulevard, funded through a Transportation Alternatives Program grant, which will enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility in the area.
