Daley School initiates extensive renovation with restroom and classroom upgrades

The Del Valle Independent School District (ISD) held a special board meeting on June 23, 2025, focusing on facility improvements aimed at enhancing the learning environment for students. The meeting outlined a comprehensive refurbishment plan for restrooms and classrooms, emphasizing the need for a clean and welcoming atmosphere.

The first agenda item addressed the refurbishment of restrooms within the facility. The proposed work includes machine stripping of floors, grout removal, and thorough cleaning of tiles and grouts. Following these steps, a grout sealant and clear silicone will be applied to extend the life of the bathrooms. Visual examples were presented, showcasing the current state of the restrooms and the anticipated improvements.

Next, the board discussed a significant paint refresh phase, which will cover approximately 150,000 square feet of the facility. This phase involves sanding, cleaning, and filling minor cracks in drywall, as well as applying two coats of high-quality paint to all paintable surfaces. The goal is to create a more inviting environment for students, as many classrooms currently show signs of wear and damage.

The discussion also included the removal of wall tack boards that have been damaged or vandalized. The board is exploring options for either replacing these boards or restoring them to avoid extensive repairs. This aspect of the project is noted as potentially the most costly due to the necessary repairs to the drywall and adhesives.

Additional scope of work includes cleanup and painting in hallways and athletic wings, addressing damaged items, and refreshing shared spaces. The anticipated timeline for completing these improvements is approximately five weeks.
