City Council discusses temporary fire station relocation to Pacific Arts Center

The City of Encinitas is moving forward with plans to construct a temporary fire station at the Pacific View Arts Center, a decision that has sparked community discussion regarding its location and potential impact. During the Zoning Administration Hearing on June 24, 2025, city officials presented the proposal, which includes a 2,651 square foot pre-manufactured home and a 1,600 square foot garage, along with necessary utility installations.

Senior Planner Esteban Donna emphasized that the temporary facility is essential for maintaining emergency response services while the city assesses long-term options for the original fire station located at 415 Second Street. The proposed site at 310 West F Street is intended to ensure continuity of operations during this evaluation period.

However, community member Jerry Peters raised concerns about the fire station's placement, arguing that it is illogical to situate it in a residential neighborhood surrounded by the ocean and an arts center. Peters expressed worries about noise from sirens disrupting local residents and suggested alternative locations that could better serve the community without the same potential drawbacks.

The hearing allowed for public comments, with Peters being the only speaker to voice his concerns. City officials noted that while public input is being collected, a decision on the project will be made after reviewing all comments.
