House Appropriations Committee reviews proposed budget for fiscal year 26

Members of the Arizona House Democratic Caucus gathered on June 24, 2025, to discuss the newly proposed house budget, which has recently passed through appropriations. The meeting, led by the chair, focused on a detailed briefing provided by a budget official, Bridal, who presented key figures and adjustments in the fiscal plan.

The proposed budget outlines a beginning balance of approximately $1.09 billion for fiscal year 2026. Bridal highlighted that the total ongoing revenues are projected to reach around $17.76 billion, which includes significant one-time revenue adjustments, notably an increase of $166.5 million from capital gains due to stock sales amid market fluctuations.

The budget also reflects ongoing changes, including a $150 million shift from the prescription drug rebate fund to access, alongside other technical adjustments. Total ongoing spending is estimated at $16.55 billion, with one-time changes bringing the total to $200 million for building renewal grants.

Bridal pointed out several critical line items, including $11.2 million allocated for fire expenses repayment and $7.5 million for a special election. Additionally, $140 million is earmarked for state employee health insurance in fiscal year 2026.
