Jackson County approves $1.6M bridge replacement contract with Rodmacher Brothers Excavating

Jackson County officials took significant steps during the Finance and Audit Committee meeting on June 18, 2025, approving key ordinances aimed at improving local infrastructure and services.

The committee unanimously recommended the perfection of Ordinance 5 9 7 9, which allocates $198,000 from the county improvement fund for renovations to the family court division of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit Court. This funding is expected to enhance the court's facilities, reflecting the county's commitment to improving judicial services.

In a more substantial financial move, the committee discussed Ordinance 5 9 8 8, which rescinds a previous resolution and authorizes a new construction contract for the replacement of the Buckner Tarsney Road Bridge. The project, which will cost the county up to $1,586,594, is fully funded and aims to replace an aging bridge with a new single-span structure designed to improve water flow and reduce clogging. The project is set to close the road for a maximum of 182 days once construction begins.

Rick Johnson from the Public Works Department provided detailed insights into the project, explaining that the original contractor could not fulfill their obligations, leading to the selection of Rodmacher Brothers Excavating as the new contractor. The county will receive $239,495 from Liberty Mutual Insurance to cover the difference in bids, ensuring the project remains on track.
