Jennifer Anderson urges inclusive wellness policies at Ambler school board meeting

During the public comment section, Jennifer Anderson, a resident of Ambler and a member of the Environmental Advisory Council (EAC), expressed gratitude for the board's careful consideration of policies over the past few years. She emphasized the EAC's readiness to contribute further to the district and appreciated the decision to suspend certain policies, allowing for a smoother transition.

Anderson also raised concerns about the district's wellness policy, specifically regarding the provision of menstrual products in middle and high school bathrooms. She sought confirmation on the procedures for ensuring these products are consistently stocked and in all bathrooms, highlighting the importance of accessibility for all menstruators. Additionally, she inquired about the potential use of state funds designated for menstrual products.

In her closing remarks, Anderson thanked board member Mr. Held for his efforts to make district policies more inclusive by suggesting the use of gender-neutral language. She urged the board to adopt this approach across all policies, reinforcing the district's commitment to inclusivity.

In response, board member Laurie Dianette addressed the concerns about menstrual products, noting that the district received a grant of over $7,000 for feminine hygiene products. She confirmed that the district has engaged students in discussions to select preferred products and has updated dispensaries in the high school while also acquiring new ones for the middle school.
