Agua Fria Village submits extensive report for capital improvement funding

The Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners held a special meeting on June 26, 2025, focusing on the Agua Fria Traditional Village's extensive feasibility report and ongoing community safety projects. The meeting highlighted a significant proposal for funding a preliminary engineering report (PER) related to the village's development plans.

The feasibility report, which has been in development for eight years, spans over 180 pages and includes input from community members, subject matter experts, and local engineers. It outlines a phased design for the village, which encompasses various community spaces, including areas for youth and seniors, and integrates with the existing master plan. The report also addresses potential market demands and revenue opportunities from both local and tourist usage.

Commissioner Kari Stone expressed support for the project, suggesting an allocation of $200,000 to fund the PER, which would complement the existing feasibility study. Stone emphasized the importance of this funding in advancing the village's development, noting that much of the groundwork has already been completed.

In addition to the village project, the meeting addressed ongoing concerns regarding traffic safety in La Cienega. Commissioners discussed the need for community input on addressing speeding and safety issues on local roadways. The engineering team is currently working on designs to improve safety, with plans to incorporate community feedback into future capital improvement projects.

The meeting concluded with a proposal to redirect $1.2 million in previously allocated funds for a water crossing project that is no longer necessary, allowing for immediate investment in identified safety needs. The discussions reflect a commitment to enhancing community infrastructure and safety while fostering local development initiatives.
