City Council approves Far West Landing commercial subdivision and parks master plan grant

Water conservation took center stage at the Farr West City Planning Commission meeting on June 26, 2025, as officials discussed innovative strategies to address the growing demand for water in Northern Utah. A recent tour of the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District highlighted the potential for new resources that could benefit developers and residents alike.

Commission member Boblin emphasized the importance of utilizing water-efficient landscaping options, noting that the district offers over 100 plant species that require 50-70% less water than traditional choices. He also mentioned a new Bermuda grass variety that mimics Kentucky bluegrass while using about 60% less water, allowing for less frequent watering—just once or twice a week.

In addition to water conservation efforts, the commission approved the preliminary plat for the Far West Landing commercial subdivision, located at 1900 West between 2775 North and 2725 North. The motion to recommend approval to the city council was met with unanimous support, signaling a positive step forward for local development.

The meeting also celebrated a significant grant of $60,812 received for outdoor recreation planning, which will aid in developing a comprehensive master plan for parks throughout the city. This funding is expected to enhance existing facilities and consider future park developments, ensuring that Farr West can meet the recreational needs of its growing population.
