Mayor Carmen Montano presents Milpitas 2025 State of the City address

The recent State of the City Special City Council Meeting in Milpitas highlighted significant progress made over the past year, showcasing the city’s commitment to enhancing community well-being and economic growth. The meeting underscored key achievements, including a substantial reduction in the projected budget deficit by 43%, which aims to establish a more robust financial foundation for future initiatives.

A notable investment of $3.1 million was allocated for upgrades across 13 parks, aimed at creating cleaner and safer recreational spaces for families. This focus on community infrastructure is part of a broader strategy to improve the quality of life for residents. Additionally, the city is expanding its support for local businesses through increased storefront grants, fostering an environment where local enterprises can thrive.

Housing development is also a priority, with 2,700 new housing units in the pipeline, which will enhance access to affordable homes in Milpitas. The influx of new businesses, including Rivian and other local favorites, signifies a growing interest in the area, bringing innovation and investment that could create approximately 48,000 local jobs, further strengthening the economy.

In a move towards sustainability, Milpitas has secured access to up to $3 million in rebates for home electrification and is leveraging $874,000 to electrify city infrastructure. These initiatives reflect a commitment to environmental responsibility and modernization.

The meeting also celebrated the success of Milpitas Smart, which is nearing 100,000 rides, demonstrating the effectiveness of the city’s transportation initiatives.
