Santa Teresa industrial base expands with new companies and facilities

A surge of industrial growth is transforming Santa Teresa, New Mexico, as the Planning & Zoning Commission highlighted a series of significant projects during their recent meeting. The area is rapidly becoming a hub for diverse industries, with several new companies setting up operations and expanding their facilities.

Among the notable developments, Admiral Cable, one of three Taiwanese companies recruited in the past four years, is now producing cables for electronics and computers. Symmetrics, another Taiwanese firm, specializes in barcode labels, while Ergo Motion, the world's largest adjustable bed manufacturer, has transitioned from a warehouse to a mattress production facility in Santa Teresa.

The meeting also showcased the impressive growth of local businesses. Valley Cold Storage, a key player in the region, has expanded its cold storage capacity to 425,000 square feet, making it the largest facility of its kind in New Mexico and the El Paso area. Meanwhile, Paul Foster, a prominent entrepreneur, has invested in the area by constructing two large buildings that supply components to Foxconn.

However, not all news was positive. A planned electric vehicle (EV) bus company, which was set to partner with a Polish battery manufacturer, has postponed its operations due to economic uncertainty. This setback comes despite the company holding a $5 million contract with the state of New Mexico for EV buses.

The commission also discussed ongoing and future projects, including a new data center and industrial park that will feature a microgrid and potentially a desalination plant. With approximately 4 million square feet of industrial space either recently completed or under construction, Santa Teresa is poised for continued growth.

As the region expands, the Planning & Zoning Commission remains focused on managing this rapid development, ensuring that infrastructure keeps pace with the influx of businesses and residents. The future looks bright for Santa Teresa, with significant investments and projects on the horizon.
