Clarksville City Council approves purchase of lots for Habitat for Humanity housing project

Clarksville City Council has taken significant steps to address housing insecurity in the community during a special session on June 26, 2025. The council approved negotiations to acquire two lots on Ford Street, which will be donated to Habitat for Humanity. This initiative aims to enhance affordable housing options for low-income residents in Clarksville.

The funding for this project will come from the Home Investment Partnership entitlement funds, with the city receiving approximately $500,000 annually. Habitat for Humanity is a well-regarded organization that helps families through a rigorous application process, allowing them to build equity and secure low-cost mortgages for their homes.

In addition to the Habitat for Humanity initiative, the council discussed another ordinance aimed at providing transitional housing for families participating in the CMCSS Families in Transition Program. This program supports children and families facing housing insecurity, including those living in temporary situations. The proposed acquisition of a quadplex will offer families immediate housing while they work towards permanent solutions.
