Arlington ISD Board reviews teacher compensation plan amid salary raise concerns

In a pivotal Arlington ISD Board of Trustees meeting, educators voiced concerns over recent salary adjustments, spotlighting the need for equitable compensation across all staff roles. Parenza Redick, an AVID coordinator with nearly three decades of service, addressed the board, highlighting the exclusion of instructional support staff from a newly announced $5,000 salary increase for classroom teachers.

Redick emphasized the critical role AVID coordinators play in fostering student success and urged the district to reconsider how these positions are classified. "We are difference makers," she stated, advocating for recognition of the extensive duties that AVID coordinators undertake, which often extend beyond regular school hours without additional compensation.

Following Redick's remarks, the board moved to discuss the proposed 2025-2026 compensation plan adjustments. The administration recommended a structured pay increase: $2,500 for teachers with 3 to 4 years of experience, and $5,000 for those with 5 or more years, funded through House Bill 2. The plan also includes a 3% market raise for teachers with 1 to 2 years of experience and other certified staff.

The meeting underscored the district's commitment to competitive teacher compensation, with Arlington ISD consistently ranking among the top in the DFW Metroplex. However, the exclusion of AVID coordinators from the salary increase raises questions about equity in compensation for all educators who contribute to student achievement.
