The Cheyenne City Council held a work session on June 27, 2025, focusing on the city's rebranding efforts and a presentation by the CFD Indian Village. The meeting featured Jamie Spalding from Y2 Consultants and Gina Gerken from Guide Studio, who provided insights into the ongoing branding initiative aimed at enhancing communication and engagement within the community.
Spalding outlined the necessity for a rebranding process, noting that the city has not updated its branding standards since the early 1990s. The current logo, featuring a bison, was trademarked in 1994, and there is a lack of consistency in the city's branding materials. The primary goals of the rebranding project include improving service to the community through standardized communications, building trust with residents, and enhancing the city's outward image for economic development.
The project will deliver a new logo, a comprehensive brand style guide, and various templates for city materials. The branding initiative is being executed in collaboration with Guide Studio and Y2 Consultants, who were selected from 22 proposals based on their relevant experience and understanding of the community.
The council discussed the progress made so far, including research and discovery phases that involved site visits and public surveys. The design phase is currently underway, with plans for a brand rollout anticipated in September 2025. The funding for the project is sourced from interest earned on American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, ensuring that the initiative is financially sustainable for at least the next decade.
Council members expressed enthusiasm for the rebranding efforts, recognizing its potential to improve community engagement and communication. The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue refining the design and implementation strategies in the coming weeks.
