Homeless Trust reports 5% drop in total homeless count ahead of August census

On June 27, 2025, the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust Board convened to discuss significant updates regarding homelessness in the region. The meeting highlighted a positive trend in the county's homeless statistics, with a reported 5% decrease in the total homeless count, bringing the number down to 3,615 individuals. Notably, the number of unsheltered individuals also saw a decline, with only 858 people living without shelter. This data reflects ongoing efforts to address homelessness in Miami-Dade County.

The board announced that the next Point-in-Time (PIT) count will take place on August 21, 2025. Board members were encouraged to participate in this census, which aims to provide a comprehensive snapshot of homelessness in the area. In addition to the statistical updates, Lisa Mosley provided an overview of the marketing initiatives planned for Homeless Awareness Day on November 7. The event will feature various activities, including media interviews and a high school rally, aimed at raising awareness and funds for the Ending Homelessness Fund established at the Miami Foundation. The board emphasized the importance of community involvement in these initiatives.

The meeting also addressed preparations for extreme heat days, which are anticipated in the coming months. Outreach teams are ready to implement strategies to ensure the safety of unsheltered individuals during these periods. Mosley noted the growth of their social media presence, with an increase of 130 followers on platforms like Instagram and Facebook, aimed at keeping the community informed about ongoing efforts and events.

Chapman Partnership provided updates on their operations, reporting full capacity at both centers and successful placements of individuals into positive housing pathways. In May alone, 202 individuals were placed into housing, and 366 individuals found permanent employment opportunities this year. The organization also highlighted recent community events, including a men's empowerment event that fostered resilience and support among participants.
