ViaPath Technologies to provide communication tablets for Duvall residents in Community Corrections

In a pivotal meeting held on June 26, 2025, the Community Corrections Advisory Board of Indianapolis discussed a new contract with Via Path Technologies, aimed at enhancing communication services for residents of Duvall. The initiative promises to provide essential tools for connection, education, and entertainment, including telephone services and tablets, with a minimum of one tablet available for every three residents.

The tablets will facilitate various forms of communication, such as electronic messaging, video visitation, and access to music and games. Notably, the costs associated with these services will be borne by the users themselves, with rates set by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). For instance, telephone calls will cost 9 cents per minute, while remote visitation will be charged at 14 cents per minute. Residents will need to prepay for these services, loading money onto their accounts to access them.

During the meeting, board members expressed optimism about the effectiveness of the services provided by Via Path Technologies, which are already in use at the Marion County Jail. Feedback indicated that residents appreciate the technology, which has streamlined communication processes compared to previous methods. The new system is expected to replace outdated paper message cards, allowing for more efficient internal communication between residents and case managers.

While the contract is set for three years, the board is still exploring the specifics of free internal messaging options, which would allow residents to communicate with service providers without incurring charges. This aspect is crucial, as it aims to ensure that essential communications remain accessible to all residents.

The board also addressed concerns regarding monitoring and security. All communications will be recorded and stored for up to 60 days, with investigative staff overseeing the process to ensure safety and compliance.
