Ocean Shores Civil Service Commission approves police and EMT eligibility lists

The Civil Service Commission of Ocean Shores held a special meeting on June 25, 2025, at the Ocean Shores Fire Department, focusing on the approval of several eligibility lists for police and emergency medical technician (EMT) positions.

The meeting began with the approval of the agenda and the exclusion of an absent commissioner. The primary discussion centered on the request to approve the entry-level police officer eligibility list, which was presented by Chief Examiner Christian Jones and supported by Chief Logan. The list was based on recent testing, where candidates' scores were averaged to determine eligibility. The commission unanimously approved the list.

Following this, the commission reviewed and approved two additional eligibility lists for EMT positions. The first was for entry-level EMTs, presented by Chief Ritter, who reported on testing conducted on June 18 and 19. The second was for lateral EMTs, which also received approval. During the discussions, it was noted that while most candidates performed well, two did not pass the tests. Evaluators expressed positive feedback about the overall quality of the candidates.

The meeting concluded with the commission entering an executive session to evaluate qualifications for public employment. Upon returning to regular session, the commission approved the extension of both the captain's and lieutenant's promotion eligibility lists, originally certified in December 2022, for an additional three years.

The meeting was marked by a collaborative atmosphere, with all motions passing unanimously, reflecting a commitment to maintaining high standards in public service recruitment.
