A proposed zoning change for a new residential development in Westfield is set to take center stage at an upcoming public hearing. The City Council discussed a request to rezone approximately 39 acres on the north side of 190th Street, just west of the Monon Trail, from agricultural to a planned unit development (PUD) district. This area is currently surrounded by residential developments, particularly the Chatham Hills PUD.
The development, presented by Onyx and East, aims to create a community with up to 125 homes, featuring a mix of lot sizes and types, including innovative cluster courtyard designs. These designs promise to enhance the neighborhood's aesthetic while respecting the natural beauty of the Monon Trail. The project includes plans for significant open space, with nearly 9.5 acres dedicated to parks and communal areas.
John Davoshevich, representing Onyx and East, emphasized the importance of integrating the development with its surroundings, focusing on quality design and a strong sense of place. The proposed community will feature public streets, walking paths, and amenities such as a bike fix-it station, aiming to foster a vibrant neighborhood atmosphere.
A public hearing is scheduled for July 7, and a neighborhood meeting will take place on June 25, allowing residents to voice their opinions and learn more about the project. The outcome of these discussions could shape the future of residential development in Westfield, highlighting the city's commitment to thoughtful urban planning.
