Mayfield Heights thanks first responders for successful Unity Days celebration

Mayfield Heights celebrated a successful Unity Days event, thanks to the collaborative efforts of local officials and community members. During the recent city council meeting, council member Jeremy Ward expressed gratitude to various departments and individuals who contributed to the festival's success, highlighting the importance of teamwork in ensuring safety and enjoyment for all attendees.

Ward specifically acknowledged the Mayfield Heights Fire Department, led by Chief Meeley and Captain Paquette, for their strong presence and dedication to maintaining safety throughout the event. He also thanked the Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office, auxiliary officers, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members for their vital roles in keeping the streets clear and orderly during the festivities.

The council member praised the fire department for overseeing the fireworks display, which was described as outstanding, and commended the service department for their adaptability in managing park layout changes due to weather conditions. Their efforts in providing essential services like electricity and water to vendors were deemed critical to the festival's success.

Ward extended his appreciation to the Parks and Recreation and ACC department staff for their countless hours of planning and execution, emphasizing the behind-the-scenes work that made the event possible. He also recognized Mayor's 13 years of unwavering support for the parks and recreation department, particularly for the return of carnival rides after a three-year hiatus.

Despite facing challenges from inclement weather, including rain and heat, the Unity Days event featured carnival rides, food, games, and live bands, with the parade being a standout highlight. Ward concluded by thanking city council members, the park and recreation commission, and all volunteers for their contributions, reinforcing the community spirit that made the event a success.
